Nevada County holds budget meeting
PRESCOTT – Nevada County held a budget meeting December 3rd. Things mentioned were the jail asking for $30,000, getting the roads and bridges into good shape, and old vehicles which have a lot of miles and need to be replaced.
A Christmas bonus was passed in 2023 and is automatically in the budget. Court members are supposed to be paid every time there is a meeting. The topic was previously brought up but never passed. Those who traveled from the south end of the County used to be paid for their travel, but the state removed this compensation.
The question was asked about the work on the new jail and the costs to the county. While payments should be finished in April the bond will end in October. This money can only be used for the jail. The roof and air conditioning are included in ARPA funding. The goal is to do the air conditioning and the roof at the same time and to slant the roof so water will run off. The total cost to do these repairs should be $472,000.
School millage didn’t change.
County departments didn’t receive any raises.
