McCaskill Mayor Hoosier updates Walking Trail grant
MCCASKILL – The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has announced the award recipients for the 2024 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Recreational Trails Program (RTP). One of the recipients is McCaskill.
McCaskill Mayor Maion Hoosier has released a statement updating the project:
“I know it has already been posted but I am very pleased to announce The Town of McCaskill has been awarded a Walking Trail Grant by Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).
This is an 80/20 grant. The state will fund 80% of the total cost and The Town of McCaskill’s match will be 20% of the total cost. Total cost of the project is approximately $115,000.00.
We will be discussing all the details at our January Town Council meeting.
I know there has been some posts concerning fund raisers to help recover the town’s portion of the cost. We have had many projects during my time as Mayor of McCaskill. Our friends and neighbors in our community have always supported our efforts to provide amenities for the people of our community. We welcome and are grateful for all donations to the town. We earmark those donations for what the donor wants them to fund.
I am sure we will be holding fundraisers in the future to help offset the town’s portion of the cost for the Walking Trail. However, having said that, McCaskill was awarded the grant because we have the ability and the wherewithal to pay our portion of the cost irrespective of fund raisers. The fund raisers help us replenish our funds and the next big project.
With respect to the fundraisers the Town of McCaskill has held many fundraisers in the past and will do so in the future, with the help of the McCaskill Community Development Committee. MCDC is a group of citizens in our community whose sole purpose is to help the town provide services, amenities and events for our community. They provide the manpower and organizational skills necessary for a small town like McCaskill to improve what we can offer our community.
With respect to non-profit organizations, we admire and respect their efforts for whatever cause they are working to advance.
As I stated above, we welcome all donations to the Town of McCaskill, whether they are from individuals, local businesses, or organizations. I will be making one final post as Mayor before our new Mayor, Kyle Sweat assumes his duties Jan. 1, 2025.
