Ice and Snow Hit Southwest Arkansas

Southwest Arkansas had their first winter storm of 2025 on Thursday (1-9) and Friday (1-10). Amounts varied greatly in southwest Arkansas. The Southwest Research and Extension Center, Hope’s official weather station, reported 1/3rd inch of ice and a trace of snow. Total precipitation from the storm was 1.41 inches combining rain, snow, and ice.
Totals varied around the county to a trace to as much as 8 inches around the Bingen area. The frozen precipitation covered the ground in Washington and was heavier further north. Reports from McCaskill put their precipitation at an unofficial 2 to 3 inches.
Power outages were reported around the area including McCaskill, Fulton, and Patmos. McCaskill was probably without the longest, about 2 days.
Bitter cold weather is forecast the week of January 20th with possibilities of frozen precipitation at least one day. Everyone is urged to check the National Weather Service website frequently for updates on the weather.
