Southwest Arkansas Arts Council announces Youth Art Exhibition and Competition

Hope – Southwest Arkansas Arts Council (SWAAC) announces their 4th Annual Youth Art Exhibition and Competition. Youth from the surrounding areas, ages 12-18, are invited to enter artwork to be exhibited and then compete for a cash prize and a gallery showing.

Submission pieces do not have to be framed, but they must be matted. All mediums are accepted for entry. Student work will be exhibited on Monday, April 21 and Tuesday, April 22 from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM each day. The Exhibition is open to all young artists and families, and the community is invited to view the works during this time.

Submissions will be judged and winners for 1st through 3rd place and Rising Star will be chosen for each category. Categories for this year’s entries are as follows: Ages 12-13, Ages 14-16, and Ages 17-18. In addition to winners in each category, one Best of Show will be awarded. Winners will be announced at a Gallery Reception on Thursday, April 24 from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM at the Arts Station.

During the reception, prizes will be awarded.

All who are interested in submitting work, please email the arts council at swaac13@gmail.com and provide the following information. (Artist’s name, contact information for parent/guardian and/or school, age of artist, school represented, and selected medium)

Beckie Moore, SWAAC Interim Director, stated, “The SWAAC board of directors and I are excited about this year’s Youth Art Exhibition and Competition. We want to encourage all students, ages 12-18, to participate. Last year’s competition was amazing, so we are looking forward to seeing what the students submit this year.”
Deadline for submission is Thursday, April 17. Works must be dropped off at the Arts Station located at 200 East Division Street in downtown Hope on the following days and times: Wednesday, April 16 or Thursday, April 17 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. Entries will not be accepted any other day or time.

Winners of this competition will be invited to have their work presented to the community through a SWAAC Gallery Showing on May 22 – May 23. News, pertaining to this Gallery Showing, will be released at a later date.
