Hempstead County Quorum Court

The Hempstead County Quorum Court held their March meeting Thursday (3-27).  The Quorum Court opened with a prayer and the pledge. They approved the minutes and then moved into the agenda items.  A proposed ordinance to allocate money for the Veterans Service office to contribute to the purchase of a new DAV Van to transport veterans to medical appointments in Little Rock was unable to be considered as there were not enough JP’s present to consider an ordinance.

The JP’s approved two resolutions declaring vacancies on the Quorum Court. JP Troy Lerew informed the Quroum Court at last month’s meeting that he was resigning as he is moving.  JP Cherry Stewart announced her resignation as she is planning to move to Central Arkansas.  Stewart spoke to the JP’s and expressed her pleasure in being able to serve her constituents.

Sheriff James Singleton told the Quorum Court about a fundraiser for Sandra and Richard Kidd.  The Kidd’s lost their home recently to a storm.  The fundraiser is set for April 3rd from 11am until 1pm at 312 South Washington.  The menu includes grilled chicken leg quarters, baked beans, potato salad, and roll.  There will be tables set up for dine-in meals.  Meals will also be available to-go.  For info, contact Marla at 870-703-9213.

The meeting then adjourned.
