HEMPSTEAD COUNTY – NAACP 6012B Hope-Hempstead County Branch encourages its members and interested persons to join its Branch to be eligible to serve as Delegates to the NAACP Arkansas State Conference 80th Convention and Freedom Fund Gala. The program will take place September 18 – 20 at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel in North Little Rock, AR.

Last year, Stacie Mitchell-Gweah, 6012B Member and Stamps Mayor, served as the Branch’s Delegate. Mayor Mitchell-Gweah shared, “The networking and visibility were tremendous! I grew up in the NAACP when I lived in Des Moines. As a youth, I was exposed to leadership opportunities that help me to this day.”

Delegates and participants will have the chance to say, ‘I was in the room!’ when Derrick Johnson, National NAACP President and CEO, gives his keynote address at the Freedom Fund Gala. Elected to the position in October 2017, President Johnson has a long history of leadership within the NAACP, including vice chairman of the National Board of Directors and president of the Mississippi State Conference.

6012B President Sylvia C. Brown added, “Organizing and mobilizing communities that have experienced and are experiencing the stressors of ‘-isms’ is hard work and heart work. It is critically important for our Units, Members and people of good conscience to gather in laughter and connection to fuel the constant fights for access, equality and equity.”
