Hope School Board Prioritizes Safety and Facilities in July Meeting

Hope, AR — July 15, 2025 The Hope Public Schools Board of Education convened for its regular monthly meeting Tuesday evening. Board members in attendance were President Alvis Hamilton, Vice President Jimmy Courtney, and members Bill Hoglund, Nathaniel Holyfield, Lakesha Jones, and David Powers. Superintendent Dr. Johnathan Crossley also participated in the session held at the district’s central office. The board began by approving the minutes from its previous meetings on June 9 and June 30. Routine financial matters followed, with the board unanimously approving school district expenditures. Superintendent Crossley delivered a comprehensive update on ongoing facility improvements and preparations for the 2025–2026 academic year. He emphasized that “safety planning” remains a top priority, citing several infrastructure upgrades aimed at enhancing campus security. Among the projects highlighted were the completion of Phase 1 renovations at Yerger Middle School’s locker rooms and the commencement of Phase 2. Additional updates included progress on the Yerger gymnasium, the high school’s agriculture barn, perimeter fencing, and the ticket booth. “These improvements—such as rolling gates and one-way traffic systems—are all part of a broader strategy to ensure student and staff safety,” Crossley said. He also addressed academic performance, noting that recent test scores showed a mix of strong and improving results, aligning with broader statewide trends. Board member David Powers raised concerns about the potential impact of an “educational funding freeze” on the district. In response, Dr. Crossley reassured the board that funding for the upcoming school year, including staffing, was secure. However, he cautioned that continued vigilance would be necessary as the state and federal educational financing landscape evolves. The meeting concluded with no public comments and a reaffirmation of the district’s commitment to transparency and community engagement. The next board meeting is scheduled for August 18, 2025
