Emmet City Council

The Emmet City Council met on Thursday (7-17). There was one item added to the agenda by Mayor Dale Booker and there was a motion to approve the minutes. There was several mistakes noted in last meeting’s minutes. The Council voted to approve the amended minutes. Tensions were raised about the budget, but it was resolved. The mayor noted the pavilion at the park needed to be sealed. Discussion ensued. Rob Clark asked if the funds for that should come out of the parks fund. The mayor said it could.
Deanna Allen was present to discuss the annexation of some property into Emmet’s city limits. She said holding an election to annex the proposed properties would cost $2,500. She proposed $5,000 for annexing the Allen property, along with a few others. She described some of the process involved in getting the proposed property annexed such as getting an attorney to read over the legal documents. Allen said she was told it wasn’t necessary but it was a good idea. She also said there were a few that didn’t want to be annexed. Grant Cox asked why those people didn’t want to be annexed. Allen said the majority didn’t want to be told what to do on their property. Allen asked the board to make motion to be put the matter on the August agenda. She said it has to be read three times in meetings. The council voted to put Allen in charge of the annexation project.
Allen told the council the 4th of July event held at the farmers’ market went very well. She said the next market event will be the Emmet Trunk or Treat. The date has not been set. The proposed date is October 31st.
Dee Clark gave the Farmers’ Market report. She said she needed the market bank statements to buy another shade screen for the market.
A spectator at the meeting asked about vicious dogs. Mayor Booker said the owners of the vicious dogs had been contacted. It was noted the dogs are still roaming around town.
Mayor Booker asked what the council wanted to do with the old firetruck. The Council voted to sell the fire truck. The meeting then adjourned.
