Civitan Car Show Winners at Hope Watermelon Festival

A 1951 Jeep Willys, owned by local Hope mechanic and car enthusiast Jewell Still, was one of the 120 fabulous vintage and/or classic automobiles entered in the Civitan Car Show Saturday at the Watermelon Festival.  The Willys won first place in the “1950-1960 Truck” category and owner Still promptly left the car show after receiving his award.  He returned after someone let him know the beauty had also won “Best of Show Truck,” but winning pictures had already been taken.
“Best of Show” winners are pictured.  From left are Madison Austin of Tontitown, AR, Best of Show Car for a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback; Autumn Petite, accepting Jewell Still’s trophy for him; Larry Burns of Magnolia, Best of Show Engine for a 1957 Chevy Belair; and Lewis McCarty of Hugo, Ok, Best of Show Paint for a 1965 Ford Mustang GT 350.  The “Best Of” trophies were sponsored by Hope Civitan Club members.
Pictured with Civitan Amber Mackey, who coordinated this year’s car show, the “People’s Choice” award was made by the Freaks of Nature and presented by Daniel King of Hope, to Johnathan Zacarias of Hope for his 2024 Corvette.
A Club Participation Award for the car club bringing the most entries, sponsored by Razorback Tans, was presented to the Freaks of Nature, with 11 vehicle registrations and many members present from multiple areas.
Razorback Tans also sponsored an award for the Most Miles Traveled, which went to Allen Goetz of Bella Vista, AR, for traveling approximately 350 miles to bring his 1978 Pontiac TransAm.
First, second and third place trophies were awarded in each of 17 categories and that list will be published later.
