Southwest Arkansas Arts Council brings “Memory Postcards – Personal History Through Art” to Prescott Senior Citizen Center

PRESCOTT — On August 14, the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council partnered with the Prescott Senior Citizen Center to host Memory Postcards – Personal History Through Art, a creative workshop connecting art and storytelling for seniors in the community.

Participants were invited to turn cherished memories—whether of childhood homes, favorite travel spots, or significant historical moments—into miniature “postcard” artworks using simple drawing and collage techniques alongside personal storytelling.

Generous support from local company Amrize made the event possible. Employees Michael Pendergraft and Jacob Beatty from the Amrize shipping department personally delivered the supplies, with their supervisor, Mark Haywood, noting that Amrize values opportunities to give back to the communities where they live and work.

Ten participants engaged in the workshop, each creating art while sharing stories—some asked about others’ drawings, laughter and memories flowed as conversations unfolded. Volunteers from the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council enjoyed the opportunity to connect with participants throughout the activity.

“Programs like this show how art can spark conversation and bring people together,” said Rachel Pendergraft, Executive Director of the Southwest Arkansas Arts Council. “We appreciate the Prescott Senior Citizen Center for hosting us and Amrize for their generous support.”

The Southwest Arkansas Arts Council continues to enrich local communities through accessible and expressive arts programming, fostering connection, creativity, and joy.
