*Life Reflections*
Ms. Florida “Mary” Jones was born on April 22, 1948, in Hope, Arkansas, the proud daughter of Pearline Butler (Poindexter). Mary grew up in Hope alongside her nine siblings. She attended Yerger High School before moving to Beaumont, Texas, to attend Texas State College and begin her teaching career. Shortly afterward, she relocated to Dallas, Texas, with her former husband, Tyrone Jones, to begin a family. She went on to teach 1st grade for over 37 years.
Her true passion was teaching children, and she loved every minute of it. She loved God, gardening, shopping, decorating for all holidays and seasons, being outdoors (in cool weather), and soaking in the sunshine. Mary always took pride in her presentation. She won Yard of the Month multiple times, as well as Yard of the Year from her neighborhood association. In her earlier years, she was known for always wearing heels and never stepping outside—even to the mailbox—without her signature red lipstick.
After retirement, she fully embraced her “Grandma Duties” for her two beloved grandchildren, Addison Laffitte (9) and General Laffitte II (4). She loved her family deeply and cherished every moment she shared with her grandchildren, delighting in their growth and new milestones.
Florida “Mary” Jones, age 77, transitioned to her heavenly home on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Fort Worth, TX, with family by her side. May she live on in our hearts forever.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearline Butler, her nine siblings, and her former husband, Tyrone Jones.
She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, Ashley Laffitte; son-in-law, General Laffitte; two grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
