Local Ministers Unite in Prayer at Yerger Middle School

Hope, Arkansas — September 5, 2025 In a quiet but meaningful act of unity, local ministers and school staff gathered at Yerger Middle School in Hope on Friday, September 5th, to pray for the safety and success of students, teachers, administrators, and staff. This monthly tradition, which began during the 2024–2025 school year with the leadership of retired minister Phil McLarty, reflects a growing commitment to spiritual support and community care within the school environment.

The group meets on the first Friday of each month, aiming to foster a sense of encouragement and solidarity across faiths and backgrounds. While many students and staff are active in local churches, the initiative also embraces those who are not, promoting inclusivity and compassion. The prayer gathering is ecumenical in nature and carefully respects the constitutional separation of church and state, ensuring that its presence remains supportive and non-intrusive.

On this occasion, ministers and staff quietly walked through the school’s halls, pausing briefly at each classroom door to offer silent prayers for the students, their families, and the educators. The event was designed to be non-disruptive, allowing the school day to continue uninterrupted while surrounding the building with a spirit of peace and hope.

Among those participating were Phil McLlarty, Maurice Grant of Great St. Paul Baptist Church; Jenil Aldrey of Charity Baptist Church; Daniel Bramlett of First Baptist Church of Hope; Gwendolyn Jones of Providence Baptist Church; Kent Mathiar of Grace Life Fellowship; and Tom Mullins of First United Methodist Church of Hope. They were warmly welcomed by Principal Marilyn Marks and Jessie Henry, who expressed deep appreciation for the continued support and presence of the clergy.

As the initiative continues month by month, organizers hope it will serve as a quiet but powerful reminder that the community stands behind its schools—not only in times of crisis, but in celebration of every achievement and milestone.
