Washington City Council

The Washington City Council met on Tuesday (9-16). All but one of the council members were present. The council meeting started a few minutes late, due to some discussion prior to the meeting.

The minutes from the last meeting were approved.  Mayor Paul Henley mentioned that there was only one dog caught since the previous meeting.

Jon Barry gave the Fire Department report.  A couple of firemen have passed their classes and are planning to get their hours in for the year. There was one medical call, early Monday (9-15) morning. One fire truck has a switch problem, but it isn’t urgent.

Mayor Henly made mention that a contractor who was working the grounds hit a water line in Washington and the city is being billed for $1,990 for downtime as the water line had to be fixed. Since there was no marking signifying a water line, the contractor started digging. The water service worker, Mike Rogers, that was present at the meeting, said he was relying on his coworker, Ben Carrigan to put markers out, as Mr. Rogers doesn’t know where the water lines are. There was a question about what Carrigan thought. Mr. Rogers said Carrigan had told him he had marked the wrong corner. There was a motion to negotiate with the contractor about the price.  There is a water leak on Jackson and Water Street and Rogers will look at it.

The meeting was then adjourned.
