Emmet City Council
The Emmet City Council met on Thursday (9-18). The meeting started a few minutes late due to discussion. After a prayer, the council approved the agenda. There was a question about the financials not being included. The alderman who asked said he approved everything that was included in the agenda.
Mayor Dale Booker introduced a discussion on a possible annexation. Council member Grant Cox said he cannot support the annexation Deanne Allen has been asking for the past few meetings as the citizens he talked to did not support it. Councilman Rob Clark said council had previously voted to go ahead with the annexation and he does not support reversing that decision. Clark also said the mayor had said the council would not revisit the issue after the measure was approved. Deanna Allen gave more information about the proposed annexation. Allen told the council it isn’t fair for people outside the city limits to get the same services as the citizens of Emmet. Those outside the city limits don’t have to pay for the services, while the citizens of Emmet do. Councilman Maurice Grant recapped the annexation meetings and accused Councilman Rob Clark of lying about what Mrs. Allen said in previous meetings. There was some discussion about this. The Council approved a motion made by Grant Cox to not pursue the proposed annexation.
There was some discussion about having trouble landing the medical helicopter for loading due to powerlines and tree limbs blocking the concrete pad. Councilman Grant Cox made a motion that would allow him to contact Pafford and find a solution. The motion was approved.
It was noted there is a city worker that is planning on resigning. Mayor Booker is continuing his efforts to get the city worker to stay with the city.
There was some discussion about removing the fence segregating the white and black side of the cemetery. The council members said it was a process and noted Larry Muldrew needs to talk to Mayor Booker to continue progress on the effort.
Mrs. Allen gave a report about the playground. She said a border needed to be placed and a dead tree needed to be removed. There will also be a cleanup day on October 7th. There will be a Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 31st, from 6pm-8pm. There was a question from a citizen about further details about the playground. There was a question about if the cemetery was being mowed.
