Re: Nomination of Chief Deputy Mickey Atkinson for Lifetime Achievement Award
Dear Members of the Awards Committee,
It is with the highest respect and deepest admiration that I submit this letter nominating Chief Deputy Mickey Atkinson for the Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his extraordinary and unwavering commitment to law enforcement and public service spanning nearly six decades.
Chief Atkinson began his distinguished career in 1967 as a Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Robert Moore in Desha County, Arkansas. From the very beginning, he exemplified integrity, dedication, and professionalism—qualities that have defined his service for over 55 years. His commitment to justice led him to serve as an Investigator with the McGehee Police Department, where his leadership and investigative skills quickly earned him the appointment of Chief of Police. In that capacity, he led with fairness and distinction, becoming a trusted figure in the community he served.
In 1994, Chief Atkinson joined the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office as a Criminal Investigator. Over the next 17 years, he became a cornerstone of the department, known for his expertise, calm demeanor, and mentorship of younger deputies. On January 1, 2011, he was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff by then-newly elected Sheriff James Singleton—a role he has faithfully and capably held for the past 14 years.
Chief Atkinson’s service has not just been a career—it has been a calling. His knowledge of criminal investigations, his leadership in both large and small departments, and his commitment to community-focused policing have left a permanent and positive impact on every agency and community he has served. Even today, he continues to be a steady hand, a wise counselor, and a trusted leader within our office.
Few in law enforcement have demonstrated the same consistency, humility, and devotion to duty over such a remarkable span of time. Chief Deputy Mickey Atkinson’s life’s work represents the very best of our profession.
It is for these reasons that I am proud to nominate him for the Lifetime Achievement Award, and I urge the committee to recognize his legacy of service, sacrifice, and steadfast leadership.
Sincerely,
James Singleton
Sheriff, Hempstead County
Re: Nomination of Sgt. Jeremy McBride for Deputy of the Year
Dear Members of the Awards Committee,
It is my distinct honor to nominate Sergeant Jeremy McBride of the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office for the prestigious Deputy of the Year award. Sgt. McBride has demonstrated unwavering commitment, exceptional investigative skill, and courageous leadership in his service to the citizens of Hempstead County—especially our most vulnerable: our children.
As a dedicated member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, Sgt. McBride has taken on one of the most emotionally and technically challenging assignments in modern law enforcement. Over the past 18 months, Sgt. McBride has actively worked over 30 cases involving internet crimes against children, leading to 13 arrests of individuals who sought to exploit or harm minors within our community.
These cases are not only complex and time-intensive, but they also require a high level of professionalism, emotional resilience, and technical expertise. Sgt. McBride has approached this work with determination and compassion, putting in long hours to ensure predators are brought to justice and children are protected from further harm. His work has directly prevented continued abuse and exploitation, and his efforts have undoubtedly saved lives.
Beyond his caseload, Sgt. McBride is a role model for fellow deputies. His integrity, diligence, and willingness to collaborate with state and federal partners make him an invaluable asset to our office. He exemplifies the very best of what it means to serve and protect.
Sgt. Jeremy McBride’s tireless work in the ICAC program has made a lasting impact on our community. His efforts have not only resulted in significant arrests but have also sent a clear message that crimes against children will be met with swift and decisive justice in Hempstead County.
For these reasons and more, I proudly nominate Sgt. McBride for Deputy of the Year and respectfully urge your full consideration of this exceptional public servant.
Sincerely,
James Singleton
Sheriff, Hempstead County
