Caribbean Nights Sparkle at United Way Gala in Hope

HOPE, AR — The Hope Country Club was transformed into a tropical paradise on Thursday evening, October 16th as the United Way of Hempstead County hosted its annual Gala under the vibrant theme “Caribbean Nights.” The event, now in its third year as part of the combined Golf & Gala fundraiser, drew a lively crowd of supporters, volunteers, and community leaders for a night of celebration, generosity, and recognition. Guests arrived in style, walking or shuttled by golf cart to a red-carpet entrance where a photographer captured couples and groups in their formal or island-inspired attire. Inside, the atmosphere was festive and elegant, with Caribbean décor setting the tone for an evening of purpose and pleasure. Sheba’s Restaurant, a local favorite, provided a tantalizing array of hors d’oeuvres to start the evening. Attendees mingled while browsing an impressive selection of raffle and silent auction items, all of which benefited the numerous agencies supported by the United Way of Hempstead County. Dinner was a culinary journey to the tropics: a refreshing salad of pineapple, orange, and cranberries, accompanied by a honey lime dressing, followed by a flavorful entrée of jerk chicken served with rice and roasted vegetables. The meal concluded with a decadent coconut rum cake, all catered by Sheba’s.
The heart of the evening came with the presentation of the annual awards, honoring those who exemplify the spirit of service and community. Steve and Celia Montgomery were named Man and Woman of the Year, recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community. The CALL, a nonprofit dedicated to mobilizing local churches to serve children in foster care, was honored as Agency of the Year. Dr. Dale E. Goins was honored with the Paul Henley Volunteer of the Year award for his unwavering commitment and compassionate service through the Christian Free Medical Clinic of Hope.
Entertainment was abundant, with DJ Stanley spinning lively tunes that kept the dance floor moving. Guests also enjoyed “Treasure Trivia,” a playful and interactive game that added excitement and camaraderie to the night.
Gina Perkins, Executive Director of United Way of Hempstead County, emphasized the importance of the Gala in supporting vital local programs. “United Way’s mission is to improve lives by uniting the caring power of our community,” she said. “Events like this help us raise funds, build partnerships, and recognize those who make a difference.” The Gala supports a wide range of agencies, including Hope in Action, Harvest Regional Food Bank, and the Christian Free Medical Clinic of Hope, among others. These organizations provide essential services addressing food security, medical care, and support for foster families.
As the evening gently drew to a close, the energy of celebration lingered in the air. Conversations continued, laughter echoed, and the sense of unity remained strong. “Caribbean Nights” was more than a festive theme—it embodied the enduring warmth, generosity, and vibrant community spirit that defines Hempstead County, leaving guests inspired long after the music faded.
