DAR to Host Presidents’ Day Senate Bean Dinner Supporting Local Citizenship Scholarships

Hope, Ark. – The John Cain & Benjamin Culp Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Presidents Day celebration on February 16th featuring a traditional Senate Bean Dinner served from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at 1815 Rocky Mound Road in Hope. Guests will enjoy dishes of Senate Bean Soup (Navy Beans with Ham), famously served each day in the Senate lunchroom in Washington, D.C. The $10-per-person meal supports the chapter’s annual Good Citizen Scholarship program, which recognizes exemplary high school seniors selected by counselors and teachers for their character and dedication to citizenship. Each year, one student from Spring Hill High School and one from Hope High School will receive the award. With the merger of the John Cain Chapter of Hempstead County and the Benjamin Culp Chapter of Prescott County, members hope to extend future scholarship opportunities to students in Prescott as well. The local DAR chapter also sponsors an annual American History contest, helping cover travel and lodging expenses for students who qualify for the state competition, which is determined by the last Monday of February (2/23), to identify those who qualify for the state competition.

Community support plays an important role in these efforts, since only part of each DAR membership fee remains within the chapter to fund local programs.

This year’s Presidents’ Day gathering carries added significance as the country approaches the 250th anniversary of American independence. A brief presentation during the evening will highlight the organization’s continuing commitment to education, historical preservation, and patriotism. Adding to the celebration, Bonnie Raff will appear in full Martha Washington attire, offering guests an opportunity for photos and for conversations about early American history.

The chapter invites the public to participate in this special event, enjoy a traditional meal, and help support the educational and historical mission of the DAR in the local community.
