Hope School Board February meeting

HOPE – Hope School Board met in the Garland Building on Tuesday, February 17th. The meeting started with a roll call of members present. This was followed with the consent agenda (previous month’s minutes and expenditures) which passed as printed. For academic excellence there are twenty new students who are on track to receive the seal of bi-literacy with proficiency in both English and Spanish. The district had 7 last year.

There are two students in the graduating class that must finalize a class or two but are on track for graduation. Dr. Crossley said last year the district had a graduation rate of 95 percent and this year are looking at that or higher. This compares to previous years where the rate was 79 or 80 percent.

Miss Kimberly Dunham announced the community awards for the high school.

There was a presentation by ABM, a school facilities maintenance company. There will be a QR code for each building. The company’s staff has impressed the district with its responsiveness. There will be an end of the year meeting at the June Board meeting.

The purchase of microlights for the outdoor recreation facilities was discussed and approved at a cost of $24,000 was approved. This will be magnet funded and fit into the maintenance and operating budget.

Promethean Board is up and running in a number of locations in the district. The Board discussed whether to acquire more boards or relocate the ones they have. Since there’s money already budgeted the Board decided to approve the recommended purchase. In the future boards can be shifted if needed.

Fixed assets deletion was passed unanimously.

A $54,000 bid for landscaping service with LLC was approved. The owner attended the meeting and told the Board he knows how to keep a property looking trim.

After an executive session the personnel packet was accepted as presented.

The Board rolled over the Superintendent’s contract to give them time to review it and make any needed changes.
