HOPE – The Prescott Curley Wolves traveled to Legion Field this Tuesday to face their rivals the Hope Bobcats. In a surprisingly one sided result, the Bobcats pulled away with a 20-1 victory in five innings.
Starring in the Bobcats’ most impressive game yet this season were Austin Courtney, Aiden Dean, and Drake Mathis. Austin Courtney never left the crowd waiting as he combined for an amazing two RBIs double off the right field wall, two singles, a total of five RBIs and two runs himself, two stolen bases, and a whopping nine strikeouts from the mound. Aiden Dean played the two-way game as he had two RBI double out to center field, a run himself, and two great catches for outs in right field. Finally, slugger Drake Mathis played another solid game for Hope as he had a two RBI double, another RBI and a run for himself, and a stronghold performance from first base with four putouts. For the Curley Wolves, a single run was driven home in the top of the 3rd by a great RBI single from #4 Wes Harper, driving in #2 Owen Glass.
After the game, we asked the Bobcat ace Austin Courtney about his thoughts about their first win of the season, and his response was, “Our objective for this game was to go out there and be aggressive, especially with our bats because the past couple of games we haven’t hit the ball like we know we can. Knowing myself, I knew if I went up there throwing strikes, then we’d get out of the game easily, so that’s what I did. Overall, if we play every game like this, we should make each game a good one.”
The Bobcats will now look forward to this Thursday, March 12th, when they take on the 3-1 Bismarck Lions in Hope at 5:00 pm in a tough match up.
