Edna Helen Hopson

A special life came to a close March 7, 2026, at 4:21 am at the Magnolia Regional Hospital in Magnolia, Arkansas. This is when God called her home.
Edna Helen Hopson was born on October 3, 1943, to Harrison Robinson and Queen Ester Robinson. She was the oldest of 12 children.
Education
She was a 1961 graduate of McRae High School in Prescott, Arkansas. She continues her education at AM&N in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she received her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and went on to later receive her master’s at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. She was married to Homer Hopson on December 22, 1967 and to this union 3 children were born.
Profession
She began her teaching career as the first black female teacher at the Waldo Elementary School in Waldo, Arkansas from 1968-1989. She moved to Chidester, AR where she taught from 1989-1990. She continued to love and teach at the Camden Fairview Elementary from 1990 to 2000. She retired from teaching after that but still had so much love and teaching to give.
Non-Profit Organizations
Her organizing efforts commenced with the McRae All School Reunion in Prescott showcasing her dedication to local initiatives, even in retirement her passion for supporting children led to establish the Waldo Helping Youth (WHY) organization. Additionally, she recognized the need for black cemetery restoration and initiated the Angel Anonymous Cemetery Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents Queen Ester Green and Harrison Robinson and one sister Betty Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memories her loving devoted husband of 58 years Homer Hopson, 2 daughters Margo Smith and Monica (Decarlos) Morris and 1 son Marcus Hopson. 6 grandchildren Jeremy Hopson, Monique (Terrence) Jones, Danielle Morris, Dequan Morris, Darius Morris and Faith Smith. 4 Great-Grands Terrence Jones Jr., J’Michael Lewis, Meila Ford and Messiah Jones.
She also leaves to cherish her 7 sisters and 4 brothers Chestene Miller, Sonny (Olivia) Roberson, Johnnie (Gloria) Robinson, Dorothy Hatfield, Gencie Burton, Carolyn Mayberry, Estella (Alaskin) Bell, Lee (Kelli) Green, Elizabeth (Ricky) Brown, David (Doris) Green and Lauveta Green. She also has many Nieces, Nephews, Great Great Nieces and Nephews and other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Ednas warm and generous nature, unwavering faith and gift for inspiring everyone she taught and mentored will be deeply remembered. Her legacy of strength, elegance and kindness will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
Interment will be at the Laneburg Cemetery West 332 West Laneburg, Arkansas.
