Donny Gentry – Updated

Donny Gentry was born on August 22, 1953, in Bayview, Alabama. He was sent to his eternal home on March 13, 2026, at the age of 72.

He was the beloved son of the late Paul and Opal Gentry; and also, preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and James Gentry; his brother-in-law, William Ogburn; and mother-in-law, Nel Ogburn.

Papaw, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was one of the compassion, love, and unwavering Faith in God. His passing left a void in the hearts of his family and friends.

We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended but for the way it was lived.

Donny is survived by his lovely wife, Ruth Ann; his brother and sister-in-law, Ricky and Rebecca Ogburn; his sister, Rendy Gentry; his children and their spouses Kari and Mike Ballard, Dustin and Laura Plant, and his daughter, Heather Gentry; his cousins, Curt and Dave Snow; his nine grandchildren and his three great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Betts Cemetery with Dave Snow officiating under the direction of Brazzel-Oakcrest Funeral Home.
