
WASHINGTON – The Washington City Council met March 17th at 7:15 pm. The previous meeting’s minutes were reviewed and approved. The revenue was also reviewed and approved. Catherine Rowe noted that she posted the financial statement for the entirety of 2025.
Concerning the water/sewer lines, the city got a note that the water lines were ready to be installed for the bathroom for the Methodist Church on Highway 195.
The Fire Report was dispatched to one medical call and 2 fire calls last month. There was a pipe training, and the fire department is going to help park cars during the Jonquil Festival.
Mayor Paul Henley read a resolution for a grant for street repair. There was a unanimous vote to accept the resolution. Mayor Henley discussed work done on/in front of the Peck house, which is on NW Conway St., cleaning up the yard.
Mayor Henely asked what needed to be done for the Jonquil Festival. A new couple moved to Washington back in August of last year. The husband, Ryan Nimmons, and Kendi Nimmons said that they were thinking of petitioning to close Hamilton Street, as it is basically their driveway. Billy Nations said that it needed to be looked at to see what streets were actually being used. A couple of signposts on Jay and Conway Streets have been pulled up. It was noted that they needed to be fixed. It was also noted that some signs were growing mold.
