NASH, TX — Nash, TX Police Chief Kelly Dial has released new details regarding a double shooting and suicide that occurred this morning in the parking lot of Texarkana Aluminum in Nash, TX.
Officers responded to the facility at 300 Alumax Drive around 6:37 am following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police discovered the bodies of two men and one critically injured woman.
Investigators identified the deceased suspect as Wendell Champion, Jr., 40, of Hope, Arkansas. The second deceased male is Eddie Hill, Jr., 48, of Texarkana, Texas. The injured woman, Candis Champion, 37, also of Hope, remains in stable condition at a Texarkana hospital.
Chief Dial stated at a press conference the incident was a domestic shooting. Authorities believe Wendell Champion confronted his wife, Candis, who is an employee at the plant. Dial said Hill was shot and killed while attempting to intervene in the dispute. The suspect then shot and seriously injured his wife before turning the gun on himself.
Chief Dial said public records indicate that Wendell Champion was previously convicted of first-degree murder in Harris County, Texas, in 2010. He had been released on parole in 2025.
Dial said there are no other suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
A statement from Texarkana Aluminum says the company has set up a crisis response team which is working with the Nash Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies to investigate what happened.
