Donna Rosenbaum Brings “Gold Star Mothers” Program to DAR

Donna Rosenbaum, DAR member of John Cain-Benjamin Culp DAR Chapter, had the program at the May 14th chapter meeting. She talked about the “Gold Star Mothers” title and its meaning.  A Gold Star mother is a mother who lost a child in war.  The concept was inspired by Grace Darling Seibold, whose son was killed in action in France.  In 1918, She began visiting hospitalized veterans and organized a group to support mothers sharing a similar grief.  Donna’s son, Thomas Chad Rosenbaum died in action.  The highway by the college has a marker naming it the Thomas Chad Rosenbaum Memorial Highway. Donna Rosenbaum is the Hempstead County Veterans director at the courthouse.
