
David Joe Smith, 65, of Hope, Arkansas, passed away at his home on April 27, 2026. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 17, 1960, to Joe Calvin Smith and Donna L. (Rash) Smith.
David graduated from Hope High School in 1979. He later earned an associate degree in HVAC from the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope and obtained several certifications throughout his career. In his younger years, he worked for Klipsch Speakers, where his love for music only grew stronger.
David enjoyed music of all kinds, especially the sounds of the 1970’s and 1980’s. Some of his favorite artists included Alice Cooper, Kiss, and The Commodores. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, cheering on horse races, cooking and grilling for family and friends, and was especially known for making great burgers. One of his favorite pastimes was playing board games with his family, and according to David, he was always the winner.
He dearly loved his dogs and treasured the time spent with those closest to him. David was also very proud of his time in the Boy Scouts as a member of the Order of the Arrow, an honor he carried proudly throughout his life.
A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Hope, David regularly served as an usher and enjoyed being part of his church family.
David will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, love for family, and the many memories he created with those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Calvin Smith and Donna L. Smith.
He is survived by his two sisters, Kathy Celestine (Tom) and Ann Stephenson; nephew, Matthew Stephenson; niece and nephew, Austin and Autumn Celestine; as well as numerous cousins and friends.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at Powell Funeral Home in Bald Knob, Arkansas on Friday, June 26, 2026 beginning at 3:00 p.m.with Rev. Carolyne Adhola of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Batesville, Arkansas officiating. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 2:00 p.m. . Interment of Cremated Remains will immediately follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Bald Knob.
