Hempstead County 4-H: We had a fun day touring Mr. Roger Davis’ bee farm today for our second Weekly Wednesday Workshop! Mr. Davis has hives located in 22 locations around Hempstead and neighboring counties for his commercial honey operation sold as Papa’s Honey.
He showed the group how you build a bee hive, feed and maintenance of a hive, and the extraction and processing of honey for commercial distribution.
Unique to his farm is an observation hive! The youth got to see a working hive up close and see a “wiggle” dance. He also gave each 4-Her a bottle of honey. We appreciate him showing us his farm and shareing his knowledge. Thanks also to 67 Gas & Grill who provided lunch for the group.
