Rose Haynie Smithpeters

They say that life is not a sprint, it is a marathon. For Rose life was more akin to a steeple chase. Her greatest obstacle was the passing of her beloved husband Paul after only 17 and a half years. She was then faced with the challenge of being a single parent to a teen Steve, and two pre-teens, Pam and Daniel. True to her name she rose to the challenge and raised them in the fear and admiration of the Lord.

Rose was born March 21, 1940, to Charles Willis Haynie, Sr. and Dorothy Arnett Haynie in Prescott, AR. She entered eternity July 8, 2026.

She attended Prescott Schools until the 11th grade after which she had an early admission to Texarkana Community College. She would complete 2 years there. Later in life she would continue to take college classes. Education was important to her. She inspired her daughter and youngest son to both take degrees.

As a teenager she worked at her Aunt Pearl’s café. After marriage she would work time to time at Prescott Manufacturing (the garment factory). She also worked at Emmet School as an aide and later on she worked for Ed Roberts. She would then be a long-time employee of J.D and Billy Hines Trucking. She finished her working life as a clerk at the Econo Lodge Motel in Prescott.

Like her name, she could be very sweet, but when called upon she had the toughness, tenacity, and sharpness of a thorn. Having to serve both mother and father, she needed those qualities.

Rose was preceded in death by her beloved husband Paul, whom she married on February 24, 1961 , and who passed away August 24, 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her father and mother-in-law William J. and Ines Smithpeters. Her sisters, Mona Sue Haynie and Jean Haynie Cook. Her sisters-in law, Ann Clark and Vickie Smithpeters and her brothers-in-law Marvin Rogers and Howard Smith.

She is survived by her sons, Stephen Paul and Daniel Ray as well as her daughter Pamela Renee. Her grandchildren, David Paul (Leah) Smithpeters and Timothy Hicks. As well as her great grandchildren Gracelynn Newton and Eli Smithpeters.

She is also survived by her Uncle Billy Joe Arnett, her brother Charles Willis Haynie, Jr (Jeanne) and sister Lera Smith. Brothers- in-law Dwight Smithpeters (Linda), David Smithpeters and Roger Bruce Clark. Sister-in-law Ina(Sis) Rogers, a special niece Linda Smith Darden and many other family members..

Rose also leaves behind many friends she made among the staff and residents of the Springs of Hillcrest Nursing Home.

I believe Rose can say as the Apostle Paul “I have run my race, I have finished my course, now is laid up for me a crown of righteousness”. I believe when she crossed the finish line, she was met by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who said to her “Well done, my good and faithful servant, enter that rest I have prepared for you”.
