HOPE – Two University of Arkansas Hope-Texarkana leaders joined representatives from across the University of Arkansas System for the inaugural UA System Emerging Leadership Academy on Friday, August 14, at the UA System office in Little Rock.
– Misty Hughes, Dean of Institutional Effectiveness, and Jennifer Cunningham, Dean of the Texarkana campus, represented UA Hope-Texarkana at the full-day leadership development event.
The academy brought together representatives from all 22 campuses, divisions, and units of the UA System. Leadership selected 47 participants from across the system to take part in discussions focused on leadership, higher education, and the future of the UA System.
Throughout the day, participants heard from UA System President Jay B. Silveria, members of his cabinet, UA System Board of Trustees members, chancellors, and Dr. Ken Warden, commissioner of the Arkansas Division of Higher Education. Leadership panels provided participants with insight into system governance, operations, higher education issues, and the responsibilities of leaders across the UA System.
“As president of the UA System, I believe we are obligated to continually identify and mentor new leaders across our 22 campuses, divisions, and units,” Silveria wrote in his welcome message to academy participants. “This academy will help participants gain further knowledge and understanding of the governance, operations, and broader work of the UA System Administration, the UA Board of Trustees, and the system at large.”
Silveria added, “The future of the UA System depends on leaders who are committed to excellence, embrace innovation, and work together to advance the success of our students, faculty, staff, and communities.”
The Emerging Leadership Academy was designed to help develop the next generation of leaders within Arkansas’s premier higher education system while strengthening connections among campuses, divisions, units, system administrators, trustees, and state higher education officials.
