James Alvin Ogden, beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on October 5, 1954, in Hope, Arkansas to Charlie Ogden, Sr. and the late Ruby Faye Scott-Ogden. He was the third of four sons and was blessed to grow up surrounded by the love of family.
James attended Hopewell School and later graduated from Hope High School in 1972. Following graduation, he began a long and dedicated career at Split Hickory Mill in Hope, Arkansas, where he faithfully worked for 29 years. His strong work ethic and dependability were evident throughout his years of service.
Early in his life, James accepted Christ and became a devoted member of Mt. Zion CME Church, where he faithfully served for 50 years. His church was an important part of his life, and he gave generously of his time and talents. Over the years, he served in numerous capacities, including church treasurer, announcement clerk, choir member, church secretary, member of the Trustee Board, recording steward, and Sunday School superintendent. His unwavering commitment to Mt. Zion CME Church reflected both his faith and his heart for service.
In 2002, health challenges made it difficult for James to continue working, and he became disabled. Even as his health changed, his dedication to his church remained steadfast, and he continued serving in whatever ways he could for as long as his health allowed.
James found enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He especially enjoyed watching wrestling, particularly WWF, gossiping on the phone, as well as watching reality television. James also possessed a profound sense of humor and loved to laugh. These favorite pastimes brought him many hours of entertainment and enjoyment.
In 2025, James’ health began to decline significantly, and he became a resident of Heather Manor Nursing Home, where he remained until his passing.
On August 17, 2026, God saw fit to relieve His son James Alvin Ogden from his earthly labor at Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock, Arkansas. James was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Faye Scott-Ogden; his brothers, Charlie Ogden, Jr., Herbert Ogden, and his nephew Antonio Ogden.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his father, Charlie Ogden, Sr.; his brother, Michael Todd Ogden (Mary); and his sisters-in-love, Joyce Ogden and Shirley Ogden, all of Hope, Arkansas, as well as Theresa (Waymon) Pearson of Jacksonville, Arkansas, aunts Lorece Thorn of Flint, MI, and Ruby (Demp) McClellan of Emmet, AR. He also leaves his special cousins, Cleytus Coulter of Blevins, Arkansas, and James Scott of Minneapolis, Minnesota, along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, church family, and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
James will be remembered for his quiet strength, faithful spirit, dedication to family, and commitment to service. His life was a reflection of perseverance, loyalty, and faith, and the love he shared with those around him will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the legacy James leaves behind—in his family, his church, and the many lives he touched—will endure for generations to come.
•The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 11 am, at Mt. Zion CME Church (819 Hickory Street, Hope, AR). Viewing will be held from 9 am to 11 am prior to the service.
