HOPE – Exciting new renovations have been recently completed at Our Lady of Good Hope Catholic Church in Hope. The church is located at 315 South Walker and has been active since 1875. Ten years ago, church members noticed the need for improvements in their sanctuary, needing increased lighting and a revamp of the dated interior. Long-time member of the church, Steve Montgomery told us who has been leading the effort in the project, “We had a building council that we had in charge of it. The six of us included Jonathan Bauer, myself, John Richardson, Linda Walker, Gabby Ramirez, and Vic Massanelli”.
Mr. Montgomery explained about their updates, “Before in the foyer, we had two solid wood doors, but now for security purposes and for improved lighting we have installed all new glass doors”. He also told us about their other updates, with them replacing carpet flooring with new tongue and groove wooden flooring, new vintage style pews with kneeling rails replacing simplified pews dating back to the church’s construction circa 1973. In the altar area, new beautiful marble tile has replaced the old carpet, as well as a new white sheetrock wall to help brighten the space. Finally, also included in the renovation are new clearer and brighter windows on the north side of the sanctuary replacing the old Spanish yellow windows.
We visited the church Thursday evening while members were working together to refill the sanctuary with everything necessary for their upcoming first Mass.
