Hope Civitan Club’s annual garage sale is slated for this Saturday

HOPE – The Hope Civitan Club’s annual garage sale is slated for this Saturday, starting at 7 am at The HUB in downtown Hope. Proceeds from the garage sale benefit the club’s annual scholarship and other club projects.

The Hope Civitan Club has been a civic organization for over 16 years, with a concentration on service, knowledge, and fellowship. Hope Civitans work on various community-related projects — such as honoring Veterans, local clergy, and the special educators of local schools, and on other projects to meet community needs. The club also runs the classic car show at the Watermelon Festival as a fundraiser for both the club and the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce.

Civitans worldwide have a special focus on individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, and each year Hope Civitans provide a St. Patrick’s Day dance and hot dog supper for Rainbow of Challenges participants. The club also supports the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham, AL, which conducts brain research related to causes of disability, and often helps local athletes attend Special Olympics competitions.

Items from several families will be available at Saturday’s garage sale, including clothes of various sizes and styles, household items ranging from cookware and decorative items to books, and many other useful things.

The Hope Civitan Club meets on the second and fourth Tuesday each month at 6 pm. at Dos Loco Gringos Restaurant. Interested persons are always welcome to attend a meeting. For more information, contact Twyla Pruden at 870-703-4366.
