PRESCOTT – Together we strive to make a better Prescott community,” Shanta Wiley said at the September city council meeting. They honored Theresa Tyree, with Central Arkansas Development Council presenting a certificate of appreciation to Tyree for helping the residents of Prescott with their utility bills, according to Wiley, who presented the award. Council members were appreciative of CADC and its work in the community, according to Mayor Terry Oliver. The Prescott Nevada County Chamber of Commerce said it is thankful for CADC and the important work it does, especially through its ongoing assistance and crisis intervention services. Wiley serves on the Prescott Nevada County Chamber of Commerce board and is the office manager for Prescott Water and Light, City Hall, and manages the city’s website.
Wiley told those in attendance at the meeting that the City of Prescott greatly appreciates the help the citizens of Prescott received.
“On behalf of the organization, Mrs. Theresa Tyree is a proud CADC Board member accepting this award. CADC has poured thousands of dollars into our community assisting residents with their utility bills who otherwise couldn’t have made it.” She said she is a witness to the effects on the people.
“I see it first-hand being the office manager at Prescott Water and Light and what an impact this organization has had. Thank you, Mrs. Theresa and all the helping hands that make this, happen,” Wiley said.
The Chamber also applauded the CADC’s commitment saying it truly makes a difference in the lives of those it serves and thanked the organization for its continued dedication to Prescott, helping build a stronger, more resilient community. In other business,
Police Chief Angela Jordan introduced a new police officer and reported that the police department had completed a class on court security emergency procedures. She then presented department statistics. Other items discussed included August meeting minutes being approved, along with the financial report, with both votes passing 8-0.
A busy month was reported by the Chamber of Commerce, including two coffees, a visit to Glenwood, a second successful crochet class, a meeting with Rotary about revitalization, fair week, and an event at Venue for You, according to Valerie Cobb of the Chamber. An amended 2026 budget was presented and approved by the Council 8-0. It was discussed that another amendment might not be needed in November. It was reported that SWEPCO had been paid off. “The city was replenishing the money used for the payment,” according to the council minutes by John Miller. Property belonging to Jessica Box was discussed, including trailers. “The trailers on my property will be worked on and fixed and are not rental property,” Jessica Box said.
