HOPE – HWL was recently approached about an opportunity to potentially participate in the sale of excess raw water from Millwood Lake to Texas.
HWL currently owns water rights in Millwood Lake totaling twelve (12) million gallons per day (MGD). The Southwest Arkansas Water District manages the water rights in the lake and HWL has 3 MGD of those rights activated through the district leaving an additional 9 MGD in reserves for future use. Of the 3 MGD activated HWL currently utilizes approximately 2 MGD.
After considering the opportunity, the HWL Commission voted against participating in the proposed sale of raw water. The Hope Water & Light Commission remains committed to providing reliable water service to the Hope community and ensuring that local water needs remain a priority in its planning and decision-making.
