Luvada Turner

Luvada Turner was born May 29, 1924 in Tatums, Oklahoma to the union of Henry Phillips and Carrie Davis.  She was the 4th of 7 children.  All 5 brothers; Jamie, J.T., Jessie Sr., Othata, and L.V. Phillips and 1 sister, Minnie Logan preceded her in death.
 
Luvada attended elementary and high school in Tatums, Oklahoma.  She accepted Christ and was baptized in Offspring Baptist Church, at a young age.
Luvada was married to Arteelous (Chunky) Alexander for a number of years until his death.  Then she moved to Chicago and lived with her brother, L.V. and his family for nearly 18 years.  She worked at French Hand Laundry in Chicago, and she joined Bread of Life Baptist Church and served in whatever capacity was needed.
Luvada left Chicago in 1985 and went back to Oklahoma to care for her grandmother until her death in 1986.  She married Tommy Turner and cared for him a number of years until his death.  She then moved to Washington, Arkansas to live with her sister, Minnie Logan.  After Minnie’s husband died, Minnie became ill and Luvada cared for her until her death in 2014.  Luvada loved serving God and helping others.  She had a beautiful soul and was loved by everyone who knew her.
Luvada made her transition on December 26, 2016.  She leaves to cherish her memory; two sisters-in-law, Edmonia Phillips (J.T.) and Juanita Phillips (L.V.) both of Chicago, Illinois; one goddaughter, Kathryn Wright of Tacoma, Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.  And last, but not least, her church family from New Hope Apostolic Mission.
Visitation will be held 10am-11am Thursday, funeral services 11am Thursday at Hicks Memorial Chapel for funerals, 407 South Hazel Street, Hope, Arkansas.  Burial will be at Moss Cemetery in Washington.    Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
