James Claudis Nelson

James Claudis Nelson, 97, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 15, 2017.

Mr. Nelson was born in the Rocky Hill Community of Nevada County near Bluff City, July 21, 1919, to Joseph Franklin Nelson and Verna Beatris Franklin Nelson.

He was a faithful member of the Bluff City Church of Christ, he served in the US Army in World War II in the European Theater as a Combat Engineer. He retired as a millwright from International Paper Co., and he was a lifetime farmer and cattleman. His family and children were his life, and he had a big family with lots of children.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Herschel, Foy, Earl, and Harl Nelson; five sisters, Esther White, Ardle Otwell, Lois Sarrett, Gladys Rowe, and Francis Kirk; two grandchildren Timothy Keith and Sonya Lynn.

He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Oleta Barlow Nelson; six children: James Kerry Nelson and wife Kay Cox of Bluff City, Tony H. Nelson and wife Sharon McKinnon of Mt. Moriah, Frank L. Nelson and wife Karla Gauggel of Boyd, TX, Joseph C. Nelson and wife Debra Robley of Nashville, TN, Perry J. Nelson of Prescott and Phyllis Aleta Haynes and husband Mike Haynes of Texarkana, AR.; ten grandchildren: James Vincent, Andrew Patrick, Tonya Christine, Michael Drew, Wendy Marie, Tracie Michelle, Donna Ann, Jody Ray, Quincy Joe, Quentin Jack; sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Pharr Funeral Home in Prescott, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and visitation Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Bluff City Church of Christ from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 18, 2017, with Phil Rowe officiating, with interment to follow in Bluff City Cemetery under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Prescott.
