PRESCOTT – Six members of the 2016 undefeated state champion Curley Wolf football team signed letters of intent to play college football next year.

The six were: Ja’Mozyia Williamson, Deonte Jamison, Hunter Grimes, Derrick Flynn, Carlos Vanhook and Ja’Nalon Marks.

The Prescott Sports Arena was packed with students, family and friends of these athletes to watch them sign national letters of intent.

Missy Walley, principal at Prescott High School, said the signing was a “huge deal”, adding there are 64 seniors in the Class of 2017 and 10 percent will be participating in college athletics next year, adding this doesn’t count the students who have earned academic scholarships and will be attending college via that route. “This has been a huge year for Prescott,” she said, adding it took everyone to get to this point.

Coach Tommy Poole told the crowd he was proud of what the sophomores and juniors did this year. He pointed out a four-year college scholarship is worth more than $100,000, adding it takes more to get a scholarship than athletic ability, as the players must also succeed in the classroom and make the grades. He continued saying there are a lot of students with the ability to play college sports, but don’t have the grades to become eligible.

“You may not want to be role models,” Walley said, “but all of you are. These students look up to you.” She reminded the players the team began the year with the saying “Katie Strong” for Katie Cummings, the student who died of cancer in November. She said Cummings taught the team unity and togetherness.

“You’re not leaving us,” she said, “we’re your fans.”

Williamson will be heading to Southern Nazarene University in Oklahoma, where he will be a member of the Crimson Storm. Jamison and Marks are both going to Southern Arkansas University to be Muleriders. Grimes is headed to the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he will be a Bollweevil. Vanhook will make the short trip to Arkadelphia where he will be a member of the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger squad. Flynn is Mississippi bound as he will be attending Delta State and be a Statesman.
