Speeding leads to drug arrests
ROSSTON – Glen Porchia and Decarlos Beck learned the hard way, speeding is not a good idea.
According to a release from the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO), Deputy Bernard Box was working radar near the Nevada school on Jan. 25, when he noticed a Ford Expedition traveling east at a high rate of speed before entering the school zone.
Box hit his lights and stopped the vehicle at the Rosston Quick Mart. There he made contact with the driver, Beck, 25, of Stephens, and the passenger, Porchia, 42, also from Stephens. A check showed Beck’s driver’s license had been suspended and there was a failure to appear warrant on him in Nevada County. The check also showed Porchia’s license had been suspended.
Chief Deputy Larry Miller arrived to assist. Miller walked up the driver’s side door, noticing the window was down and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. He searched the SUV, finding a large amount of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and other paraphernalia.
Both were placed under arrest and taken to the Nevada County Jail where the substance weighed in at more than eight ounces. The two were charged with possession of a controlled substance and held for their first court appearance.
