Davis charged with possession
HOPE – Following a traffic stop, Patrick Davis was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
According to a release from the Hempstead County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), Investigator Gary Dorman noticed a black Jeep heading south on Hempstead 3 cross the center line on three occasions Tuesday. As there is no shoulder on the road, Dorman opted to wait until the vehicle reached a safe place before pulling it over.
However, before that happened, the Jeep went into the ditch. Dorman turned on his lights and Davis, a passenger in the vehicle, appeared to get nervous and was moving around quickly before opening the door. Dorman asked if everything was all right and was told it was, that they had stopped so David could “relieve” himself. Dorman reportedly noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed Davis was holding a cigar wrapper commonly used to smoke marijuana. When Dorman asked about the wrapper, Davis reportedly said “it’s a blunt.”
Davis was asked to get out of the vehicle, with Dorman taking the wrapper, which was reportedly full of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Davis was placed under arrest for possession of marijuana.
While Dorman was handcuffing Davis, he reportedly noticed a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana on the ground under the vehicle next to Davis’s door. Dorman asked Davis about the bag and was allegedly told he was the marijuana Davis had been using to roll in the cigar wrapper. Dorman noticed another plastic bag on the ground containing a white rock-like substance believed to be crack cocaine. Dorman picked up the baggie.
Davis was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana and taken to the Hempstead County Detention Center.
