Grazing school set
HOPE – A grazing school and field day will be held in Hope at the Southwest Research and Extension Center Friday, April 7, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Lunch will be provided and is sponsored by the Mine Creek, Hempstead, Nevada and Pike Counties Conservation District. The meeting is open to all eligible people. However, the cost to pre-register is $10 and will be $15 at the door. Those planning to pre-register must do so at their county extension office by March 31.
The schedule has the day starting at 9 a.m. with the sign-in, followed by Dr. Paul Beck talking about “300 Days of Grazing” from 9:30 until 10:15. From 11-11:45 there will be an electric fence demonstration by Kenny Simon. At 11:45 there will be conservation district programs, followed by lunch at noon. Activities resume at 12:30 p.m. with county agents talking about winter annuals and harvest data. At 1 o’clock, field observations of winter annual plots will be done, followed by establishment techniques – no-till vs. broadcut and seeder calibration from 1:45-3 when the session ends and an evaluation is requested.
