James Arthur Sampson “Jimmy Jam”
August 5, 1943-April 15, 2017
Jimmy was born August 5, 1943 in Laneburg, AR to Pearson and Oma Barker Sampson. He joined the family of big brothers Bobby and Bud, along with one sister Betty George.  During his 73 years on earth he held many jobs in Nevada County.  His first job was a paper route for the Arkansas Democrat, later became a chicken farmer, worked for Prescott Motor Company, owned and operated Sampson’s Grocery, and most remembered for his work at Davis Café and Oliver’s One Stop.  Oliver’s One Stop was a position he enjoyed dearly as he had the opportunity to meet and share stories with many of Prescott’s residents.  This is also where he received his nickname “Jimmy Jam”, a name that became one of his favorites.  Jimmy was a loyal friend and family member who had a love for history and learning of his ancestry.   His door was open and welcoming with a fresh pot of coffee and conversation waiting for anyone in need.  He loved his community.
A special day for Jimmy was August 7, 2016 when he became a Christian and was baptized in his back yard pond.  He celebrated this day with his loved ones and many friends and self-titled it “Jimmy Jamming Day” as he was so very excited to share his experience with everyone.
Jimmy is survived by one son James Sampson and wife Kelli of Natchitoches, LA; three grandchildren James (JD), Shelbi, and Lily Sampson; his special love Barbara Sampson; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved friends.
Preceding him in death are his parents, two brothers, one sister and two sons George and Jeffrey.
Visitation will be held Monday, April 17, 2017 between the hours of 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Pharr Funeral Home of Prescott, 201 West 2nd North, Prescott, Arkansas.
He left his earthly home on April 15th, 2017.  Services will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Laneburg Baptist Church with Brothers Neal Ridling, Mike Steed and Perry Johnson officiating, interment will follow in Laneburg Cemetery under the direction of Pharr Funeral Home of Prescott.
A Special thank you to those who prayed for him, helped care for him and visited him as his health declined including Barbara Sampson, loyal friends Julie and Terry Oliver, Baptist Hospice, and Hillcrest Nursing Home.
