On April 27, approximately 8:28 AM, officers with the Prescott Police Department and investigators with the Union Pacific Rail Road responded to an area of the Union Pacific Train Tracks Near Garland Street in Prescott.

Upon arrival, investigation revealed that Stanley Joe Johnson, a 60-year-old black male, had attempted to cross the tracks from west to east, not at a designated crossing, in front of a north bound train, when he was struck by the lead engine.

Local witnesses advised that the train’s horn was activated at the time of the incident, and had been throughout the previous crossings.

The subject was transported by ambulance to Wadley Medical Center in Hope, where he died from injuries sustained during the incident. The body was submitted to the Arkansas State Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.

It was determined the subject had just recently moved to Prescott from Colorado.
