Lady Saints become Back to Back AACS State Champs!

This has been an exciting season for the Garret Memorial Lady Saints softball team, they kicked off their season by playing on their new softball field for the first time and then ended the season by being back to back state champs; winning the 2017 AACS State Championship tournament Tuesday, May 2 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

This is the second year the Lady Saints have gone head to head with rivals Columbia Christian School of Magnolia, Arkansas for the state champion title. Last year the teams competed with the Lady Saints coming out on top with a 12-4 victory.

The team is lead by Coaches Ronnie Miller, Charles Backus, and Clay Antley. The game was off to a slow start being tied zero-zero until the third inning. In the third inning Saints lead 2-1 with Raley Sullivan getting a double Whitley Richards with a triple to bring in Sullivan and Courtney Rook with an RBI to bring in Richards. The team then doubled down for the fourth inning leading 4-1 with Katlyn Rothwell getting a single, Emily Hood with a double, and Sullivan with a double bringing in two runs. During the sixth inning Columbia came back and scored making the game 6-7 with Columbia in the lead, Hood got a single, Richards and Morgan Hooker were walked, with bases loaded Rook hit a double bringing in two runs. During the seventh inning Garret got last at bat, with two outs on the board Rothwell got a double followed by Hood with a double tying the game 7-7. Sullivan hit a walk off run to win the game 8-7.
