James Edward “JR.” Singleton
James Edward “JR.” Singleton, 83 of McGehee Arkansas passed away on Saturday May 6, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hamilton Franklin Singleton and Ophie Beatrice Singleton.
James was of the Christian faith, and one of the founding members of the South McGehee Baptist Church still attended church until his illness prevented him from doing so.
James was a mechanic all his life working on anything that had a motor. He worked for several tractor companies and retired from the Desha County Road Department serving as a mechanic for over 20 years. After retirement, he spent his time working on lawn mowers for most of the people in Mc Gehee and surrounding area. He loved spending time with his cats and gardening until his health prevented him from doing so.
Mr. Singleton is survived by two sons, Sheriff James A. Singleton and wife Nancy of Hope, Arkansas, Former McGehee Police Chief Jimmy F. Singleton of Monticello, Arkansas, Six Grandchildren, Casey and Wife Tessah of Hope, Arkansas, Lacey Jo Singleton of Hope, Arkansas, Eric Singleton and wife Tasha of Eudora, Arkansas, Heather Singleton of Monticello, Arkansas, Alisha Bailes of Mayflower, Brandon Singleton of Grady, Arkansas and 9 great grandchildren.
A private memorial will be held at a later date.
