HC Fair this week
HOPE – The annual Hempstead County Fair is this week at Fair Park.
The county fair isn’t as detailed or packed as the Southwest District Fair, but is necessary for entries into the district fair.
The fair kicks off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, with the livestock check-in. From 6-8 p.m. entries in horticulture, canning, arts and crafts and photography will be checked in. At 6:30 p.m. there will be a livestock exhibitor cookout.
On Wednesday, Aug. 30, things kick off early with the annual Fair Coffee at the Hope-Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce from 9:30-11 a.m. This will be followed at 2 p.m. by the judging of canning, baked goods and arts and crafts. A Dutch oven cookoff will be held from 5-7 p.m., with the goat and swine show set for 6 o’clock.
Exhibits will be on display from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31. In the midst of this, the hay show will be held at 5, with beef, sheep, chickens and rabbis shown at 6.
The livestock premium sale lunch will be from 1:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 1, with the premium sale to start at 12:30. At 3 o’clock livestock must be checked out of the fair.
Saturday sees pageants, with the Little Miss Hempstead County Pageant set for 9:30 a.m. At 12:30 p.m., the young ladies will take the stage in the coliseum for the Miss Hempstead County Pageant.
