HC Historical Society meeting in Washington
WASHINGTON – The Hempstead County Historical Society will be holding a meeting on Tuesday evening September 19, at the Presbyterian Church in Washington, at 7 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come. Josh Williams, Curator of Historic Washington State Park, will be the speaker and present on the History of the Southwest Trail and its current pathway today from Fulton to Little Rock. The Southwest Trail was the original road that connected St. Louis, Missouri to Texas. Washington and many other early towns of Arkansas were formed because of the trail. A travel exhibit on Washington and the Civil War will also be on display for people to view. Included in the exhibit is a listing of every known Civil War veteran (Union and Confederate) of Hempstead County.
The Historical Society seeks to bring awareness to the rich heritage and history of Hempstead County. Plans for more presentations are planned for the upcoming months. Come and share your history with us.
