Students contribute to Halloween fun

HOPE – Students in the Hope Public Schools will contribute to the fun this Halloween season with local service projects.
Fifth grade students at the Hope Academy of Public Service will provide help for a downtown merchants’ Trunk or Treat from 4-7 p.m., Saturday.
HAPS Principal Dr. Carol Ann Duke said the fifth graders will earn public service credit, as will parents who participate, by helping youngsters at the trunk or treat event and carnival games, which will be located on Division Street between Tailgater’s Restaurant and the Hope Visitor Center Depot Museum.
“Students may wear costumes and may trick or treat,” Duke said.
Hope High School student organizations will add to the Halloween fun on Oct. 31 with a Track or Treat event at the HHS track adjacent to the high school campus on 16th Street.
Hope FFA Sponsor Christina Smith said nine student groups, including FFA, FCCLA, FBLA, Varsity Cheer, HHS Yearbook, HHS Girls Basketball, HHS Band, AFJROTC, and HHS Student Council, will participate.
“Each club or group is doing a different game, and not everyone has decided which game they will be doing,” Smith said. “I know we will have Witches Brew (throw stuffed animals into a cauldron like basketball), Dartless Balloon Pop, Can Knock down, Jumping Spider, Witches Hat Ring Toss, and Boo Bowling.”
The fun starts at 6 p.m. and concludes at 8 p.m., and admission is free.
“We will have an obstacle bounce house and a regular one,” Smith said.
HAPS seventh grade students will provide assistance for PreK through second grade students at the HAPS Fall Festival on Nov. 3. The festival will be open from 4-7 p.m., and will serve as the November service project for the seventh grade.
