PRESCOTT – With the holiday season in full swing, the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a full slate of events.

The fun begins on Dec. 5 when the annual Christmas Business Decorating Contest judging is held. The judging will start at 1 p.m. with the winners announced at Christmas on the Square on Dec. 7.

The annual Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. This year’s theme is “Santa’s Workshop” and should challenge the creativity of those constructing floats. The parade will be immediately followed by Christmas on the Square on the lawn of the Nevada County Courthouse. This year hot chocolate and cookies will be for sale, area choirs will sing and children can visit Santa inside the courthouse.

This will be followed on Dec. 9 by Breakfast with Santa. Once again, Breakfast with Santa will be held at the Potlatch Building from 9-11 a.m. The doors will not be opened to the public until 9 a.m. and the entry fee is a canned good.

According to Jamie Hillery, executive director of the Chamber, breakfast will be juice, fruit, doughnuts, pastries and honey buns as this was a big hit last year. Children can have their pictures taken with Santa as well. The event will include many favorites, such as making sleigh bell necklaces, reindeer food, writing letters to Santa, Bingo, have a coloring station and the cookie decorating. However, some new events have been added. One is a larger snowball toss with beanbags. There will also be a coloring bag station where children can decorate their “swag bags” for all the goodies they collect during the event. There will also be a photo booth where people can dress in costume and have their picture taken.

Breakfast with Santa is for children 0-12, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
