Santa visits Depot

SANTA AT DEPOT 010

PRESCOTT – Santa made his first official visit to Prescott Saturday with a stop at the Nevada County Depot and Museum.

From start to finish a steady stream of youngsters made their way into the Depot to see Santa and let him know what they want for Christmas. While St. Nick set up shop in one room, Museum Curator Judy Duke was in the front room where she read Christmas stories to children. She brought “kerchiefs” and knit caps for the children to wear while they listened to classics such as “Night Before Christmas”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “Frosty the Snowman”.

Mary Godwin, executive director of the Prescott-Nevada County Economic Development Office, manned the cookie station, which was also popular with the youngsters and their parents, as there were several varieties of cookies to choose from, along with milk.

Visitors also took tours of the 1920s-era caboose, either before or after their visit with Santa. The depot’s platform was also decorated for the holiday season with a tree, mock gifts and a train set. Inside the museum, patrons checked out the antique decorations as well as the complete set of holiday ornaments from the Prescott-Nevada County Chamber of Commerce.

The star of the show, though, was Santa.
