Speeding leads to drug bust
PRESCOTT – On Saturday, Jan. 6, Deputy Bernard Box was traveling South on US 371, when he observed a passenger vehicle traveling North at a high rate of speed. Deputy Box confirmed the speed of the vehicle by radar at 74 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone.
Deputy Box made a traffic stop on the vehicle identifying the driver as Stephen Mark Miller. While talking with Miller, Deputy Box observed a plastic baggie inside of a cigarette pack and asked Miller what it was. Miller attempted to hide the package at that time.
Deputy Box requested Miller exit his vehicle at this time. Deputy Jeremy Hendrix arrived on scene to assist Box.
A search of Miller’s vehicle was conducted locating several items identified as drug paraphernalia and a small amount of off-white crystal type substance believed to be methamphetamines.
Miller was placed under arrest and was transported to the Nevada County Detention facility when he was held for a first appearance on the charges of speeding, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a drug paraphernalia.
