SPLASH PAD 001

PRESCOTT – Construction has begun on the new splash pad.

By the Memorial Day Weekend, children should be able to enjoy themselves playing in the water. Actually, the pad should be ready long before then. Prescott Mayor Terry Oliver said the pad should be ready in two or three weeks – depending on weather, always a problem this time of year.

Crews for the city and splash pad were on site Tuesday afternoon. The dirt work has been done for the pad, and the location and design of the pad has been mapped out with spray paint in the dirt. The pad will be 40-feet by 80-feet in places, but will have a “snowman” shape with different circular areas. It will also be 12-inches of brushed concrete and shouldn’t be slippery when wet.

All of the plumbing will be stainless steel, and there will be almost nothing above ground. The play area will be heavy grade plastic capable of supporting more than 200 pounds.

City crews were picking up limbs and leaves Tuesday, so the water department employees could dig the required trench for the plumbing.

Sidewalks are already in place leading to and from the pad.
